I have acquired a new computer that came with Money 2005 already installed.
Presently I am using Money 99 on another computer and would like to transfer
the old file to the new machine and convert the file to Money 2005. I have
tried copying the Money 99 files to a portable USB drive but apparentlyh
Money 2005 does not recognize it. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,

Make sure your Help->About version is 14.0.80.1105 before preceding.
If the version is lower, open the sample.mny on your install folder,
and Money should do an online update.

Money 2005 does not recognize the *.mny file? Try copying that file
to your MyDocuments folder, and doing File->Open from within Money
2005.

If it is the backup file, Do File->Restore in Money 2005 from your
*.mbf file on the USB drive. During the restore, do not take the
default location, but instead Browse to as spot on your MyDocuments
folder.

If you still have a problem, what error message are you getting?

I guess I have more questions than before.
1. When I finally can get Money to open, I find the version to be
14.0.50.724. I don't seem to be able to get it to update to a higher version.
It seems to run in a loop trying to upgrade the file but then I get an
message that it can't open the file because it is protected or is use.
2. I don't seem to be able to find an "Install" folder or a sample.mny file.
Where should I begin looking for it?
3. There are two files on the old computer, Money99 and Money99 backup,
neither with any extension. I have tried moving these files to the My
Documents folder but the program apparently is looking for a file with an
extension of .mny

Your suggestions would be appreciated.

14.0.*50*.724???

Anyway, try opening that Sample.mny file. You should be able to open
Money by double-clicking on the Sample.mny file in Windows explorer.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005" would be the typical
location.
